A bit about me... because I'm thinking if my writing has inspired you to look me up then you might be interested...
I have a BA and MA in English literature and have been a teacher of English Language and Literature for seventeen years. I have also been a member of Tindal Street Fiction Group in Birmingham, England for the last nine years, and run creative writing workshops for teenagers and adults. I regularly read my short stories at venues in Birmingham and Shropshire at literary events. I have written two novels for adults, one for children, write poetry (sporadically!) and short stories. To date I have had two poems published in anthologies, in 2011 I won second prize for my short story 'Polar Opposites' in the 'Writers' Forum' magazine and in 2013 my story 'Beneath the Surface' was chosen out of a large number of entries to be published in 'The Sea in Birmingham' to celebrate thirty years of Tindal Street Fiction Group. Recently, my novel 'The Forgotten People' was longlisted for the Bridport prize and reached the final 20 novels out of 1,196 entries in the 2018 competition. I work with the charity ‘Gingerbread’ and recently had an article published on their website. My short story ‘Clear as glass’ was one of the winners of the Mantle Arts writing competition and has been published in the anthology ‘Songs for the elephant man’ by Mantle Lane Press. My story ‘The Wall around you’ is being published in the Dostoyevsy Wannabe Cities collection, in the anthology entitled ‘Birmingham’, in February 2020. I also write regular blogs for companies, on request.
Every writer has an obsession; this obsession forms the roots for the forest of their writing.
